47' Custom Raised Pilothouse Trawler  - “Mischief”

Designed and Constructed in 2009 by Hugh Huff – Midland, Ontario

Built with a focus on strength, safety, and serviceability, Mischief embodies traditional displacement trawler principles:

  • True displacement hull for efficient, economical cruising
  • Raised pilothouse configuration with excellent sight-lines
  • Wide, protected side decks for safe line handling
  • Solid, conservative engineering throughout
  • Systems laid out for accessibility and ease of maintenance

Her Northern expedition-style profile is purposeful and timeless, projecting capability without excess.

Mischief is a rare, purpose-built 47' custom raised pilothouse trawler designed and constructed in 2009 by Hugh Huff in Midland, Ontario. Conceived as a Northern Alaska-style displacement cruiser, she reflects a philosophy of integrity, efficiency, and serious passage-making capability.

Engineered specifically for the demanding waters of the Great Lakes, the Great Loop, and extended coastal cruising, Mischief combines robust construction with refined craftsmanship and intelligent systems design. She is not a production vessel — she is a thoughtfully executed custom built for an experienced cruising owner who valued reliability, comfort, and long-range autonomy.

Cruising Capability

Mischief is ideally suited for:

  • The Great Lakes
  • The Great Loop
  • Long-range coastal passage-making
  • Extended seasonal cruising
  • Owner-operators seeking independence and reliability.  Her displacement design provides exceptional fuel economy at cruising speeds, predictable handling, and steady offshore manners. Mischief originally from Ontario Canada, has traveled through the Great Lakes, including Lake Huron, the St. Clair River, Lake Erie, through the Welland Canal, Lake Ontario, the Thousand Islands and up the St Lawrence River.  She then traveled down the Richelieu River to Lake Champlain and then the Hudson River and around Cape May.  Her Southern trip travels the Delaware River through Chesapeake Bay to Norfolk, then travels the ICW and Pamlico Sound to her current location in a fresh water basin South of Wilmington, NC.  She has been a fresh water vessel until recently and has traveled over 1,750 miles from Canada, experienced at least 40 to 50 locks and safely traveled down to the sunny South.
  •
